Complete Hindu Antim Sanskar Rituals Guide
Hindu funeral rites, or Antim Sanskar, are detailed in the Garuda Purana. This guide explains the significance of each step from the final breath to the ashes immersion.
Significance of the 16th Sanskar
The Antim Sanskar represents the release of the soul from the physical body, helping it transition to the ancestral realm. Proper execution of the rites is believed to offer Moksha (liberation).
Major Steps:
- Snanam & Shringar: Bathing the body with holy gangajal and dressing it in clean garments.
- Antim Yatra: The procession to the crematorium carrying the body on a bamboo Arthri.
- Mukhagni: The lighting of the funeral pyre by the chief mourner (usually the eldest son).
- Kapaal Kriya: The ritual cracking of the skull during cremation to release the life force.
